Weekly Wrap-Up

Weekly Wrap-up time!
  • It wasn't last week, but I attended the ASCAP Women Behind The Music event in NYC. As a lover of music and entertainment, it was so empowering to see women in the industry honored for their achievements. Hopefully I will be one of them one day ;-)
  •  I got this "Be A Bombshell' eyeliner in this month's Ipsy bag... LOVE IT!
  • Yesterday, the east coast was assaulted by hurricane Sandy. Fortunately for me and my family, we were unaffected by the storm. We spent the day making cake pops, and watching movies, including my favorite- "Dancehall Queen". The NYC subways are down, so I'm not sure when I will return to work but other people have it worse so I won't complain.
  • It was movie night at my little cousin's school (to celebrate Halloween) and we watched Casper! It was hilarious to hear all the kids scream "Ewwwwww" in unison when Casper kissed Wendy.
  • I wear my Falling Whistle from time to time and I decided to snap a picture of it.
  • I went to the Times Scare haunted house in NYC and had a BLAST! I was admittedly petrified but I lived... I thought I was going to die for a millisecond.... but I'm a thug. Thugs don't cry ;-)

Stay safe and have a great week!

In Love With Places I've Never Been

I saw this picture randomly online and it resonated with me. I really do fall in love with cities that I've never been to and people (culturally) I've never met.

Weekly Wrap-up

Weekly Wrap-up time!
  • Last week was "Advertising Week" in New York. At the last minute, I decided to attend an event at Yotel. Great food, awesome music, and good people. I also bumped into fellow CCNY alum and blogger, Kelly Brown of Masque Magazine! We had a great time!
  • Stylist Ashley L. Dalton and I celebrated my artist Kat Rodriguez's successful show. She performed a full-set at Sullivan Hall in New York City on Friday. I talked about Kat Rodriguez HERE when she released her album in June. As her manager, I couldn't be prouder!
  • I got a free ride to work in a cab that looks like a bull *SMILE* It was sponsored by Big, Rich Texas and I couldn't have been happier (because I was late to work *giggle*)!
  • At my job, they have really cool events! I think I said that last week though... Well, anyway, I attended their Latin cultural event and it was AWESOME! I haven't had a Coke in a bottle in YEARS and they had some. I snatched two!
  • I had to snap a picture of the delicious tofu and Brazilian chocolate that I had last week. So good!
  • My aunt's birthday is on the 13th and I decided to surprise her by traveling to Boston to spend the weekend with her. She was SO happy and I felt SO good that I was able to surprise her. We took the MBTA and I thought their "Charlie Cards" were cute. I have no idea why they call them charlie cards though...

Have a great week!

On Trend: Forever 21 Sneaker Wedges

So, Let me tell you all a story:

I decided to visit Forever 21 last Friday, you know, just to SEE. I had no intention of purchasing anything at all.

As I sashayed into the store, my eyes were immediately accosted by something rather small and black on a low shelf in the corner. To my surprise, Forever 21 had wedge sneakers that looked great for their $39.95 price tag!

Surely they wouldn't fit I said to myself... So I picked them up for kicks and carried them around while I browsed the store.

35 minutes, two skirts, three tops, and one legging later... Your City Girl was in the fitting room. You know, just trying on for fun.

When I finished trying on all my outfits, I said to myself, "Self, why don't you just try the shoes on. You know, for fun." My self said "Okay."

Fast-forward to this very moment and I think we all know what I walked out of the store with *Giggle*
I am head over heels with them, however, I will be DIYing them. I feel like they need a little bit of spice!

If you have any great DIY shoe ideas, feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments!

Weekly Wrap-up

Weekly Wrap-up time!
  • I love tea, I mentioned this before while I was interning at Complex Media. In of my Birchbox's, I received two Le Palais des Thés - Thé du Hammam tea bags but only recently got around to trying them. OH MY GOSH! Talk about delicious! It is a rich blend of Chinese green tea, rose petals, and green dates with a faint overlay of orange flower water. It can be served hot or chilled. If you like teas, you should really try this, I know i'm going to purchase a box.
  • I interviewed with Tamiko White for an assistant position at her WhiteNoise Showroom in August. Little did I know that they would ask to film my interview for Tamiko's new reality show White Noise on ChicRebellion.tv! The interview was very real but Tamiko was super sweet so I didn't even think about the cameras being around. Check it out HERE (fast-forward to the 2:15 mark for my interview). Unfortunately, I had to turn down this internship opportunity but I expect to see and hear a lot more from her. She's an amazing business woman.
  • At my job, they have really cool events and really support indie artists. This group called Basement Batman came to play one afternoon and they were awesome! They have crazy amounts of swag and their music is great too. Check out their Facebook page if you like new music.
  • Speaking of new music, I attended Mel Carter's album listening session for his latest mixtape, Popular Stranger, last week. The party was hosted by Power 105.1 New York radio personality Charlemagne Da God and  LowKey from Youheardthatnew.com. The music was hot! I spoke about Mel a long time ago in my Artist Spotlight section when he released his first mixtape, Certified. He has a great personality (even though he was joking about me being vertically challenged a.k.a short lol) and he has great music. He is definitely on the way to greatness if he keeps working hard.
*Oh, btw... Mel is actually Jay-Z's nephew. I guess the legacy continues...
  • I had a breakfast smoothie and it was so good I had to let you guys know! It consisted of strawberries, spinach, mangoes, pineapples, orange juice, plain yogurt and blueberries. YUMMY!

Hope you all have a productive and amazing week!
